How to prevent static electricity in Gasoline Storage Tank

To prevent static electricity in Gasoline Storage Tank, the following measures can be taken:
1. Tank grounding
Reliable electrical connection between Gasoline Storage Tank and the earth is a key measure for anti-static. By installing grounding devices on the tank, such as grounding electrodes and grounding wires, the static electricity generated on the tank can be discharged to the earth in time. The grounding electrode should be made of corrosion-resistant metal materials, such as copper or galvanized steel, and should be buried underground to a certain depth to ensure a good grounding effect. The grounding wire should have a sufficient cross-sectional area, generally not less than 25 square millimeters, and the connection should be firm. Check the grounding resistance regularly to ensure that it is not greater than the specified value, generally not more than 10 ohms.
2. Use anti-static materials
In the design and construction of storage tanks, materials with anti-static properties should be selected. If the tank body is made of metal, because metal has good conductivity, it can quickly dissipate static electricity. For some non-metallic parts, such as pipes, valves, seals, etc., plastic or rubber materials with antistatic agents added should be used to reduce their surface resistance and reduce the generation and accumulation of static electricity.
Control flow rate and avoid impurities: During the transportation and loading and unloading process of gasoline, static electricity is easily generated when the flow rate is too fast. Therefore, the flow rate of gasoline should be strictly controlled. Generally, the flow rate in the pipeline should not exceed 4.5 m/s. At the same time, impurities such as moisture and dust should be avoided in gasoline, because impurities will increase the friction between gasoline and the pipeline or tank body, thereby generating more static electricity. Before gasoline enters the storage tank, impurities can be removed through filters and other equipment.
3. Eliminate human static electricity
Operators may carry static electricity when they touch Gasoline Storage Tank and related equipment, so measures should be taken to eliminate human static electricity. Operators should wear anti-static work clothes and work shoes, and touch the static eliminator before entering the work area to release static electricity on their bodies. When loading and unloading oil, anti-static tools should be used to avoid static electricity generated by friction between tools and tanks or pipes.

Set up static electricity monitoring devices: Set up static electricity monitoring devices around the Gasoline Storage Tank to monitor the static electricity potential of the tank and the surrounding environment in real time. When the static electricity potential exceeds the set value, the monitoring device will sound an alarm to remind the operator to take corresponding measures, such as stopping the operation, checking the grounding condition, etc., to ensure the safe operation of the storage tank.
